Shrewsbury College is celebrating an exceptional series of achievements across Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Health & Social Care, Plumbing, and Carpentry, as students progress through prestigious national skills competitions and demonstrate outstanding technical ability.

Shrewsbury College is proud to take part in WorldSkills, a prestigious national and international programme that showcases the very best in vocational talent. WorldSkills competitions challenge students to complete in industry‑standard tasks under pressure, helping them develop advanced technical skills, confidence, and real‑world employability.

We are so happy to announce Poppy Craven (Level 2 Beauty Therapy), Jessica Smith (Level 3 Beauty Therapy) and Casey Tench (Level 3 Beauty Therapy) have successfully passed the first qualifying stage of the Beauty Therapy WorldSkills competition. All three students now advance to the regional heats at Coleg Cambria on Friday 12th June, where they will complete three demanding practical tasks: underarm waxing, manicure, and eyebrow shaping and tinting.

Also progressing through is Holly Weaver - Level 2 Hairdressing.

Holly has secured a place in the regional heat of the Level 2 Hair WorldSkills competition, taking place at Dudley College on Friday 12th June. Her achievement highlights the strength and dedication within the Hairdressing department.

And finally, Gracie Mansell - Level 3 T Level Health (Supporting Adult Nursing).

Gracie has qualified through the first heat of the Health & Social Care WorldSkills competition and will now compete in the regional heat at Newtown College on 17th June. Her success follows the inspiring achievement of last year’s gold medallist, Ester Sevim, who triumphed in the national finals.

That's not all...

On 4th June, Shrewsbury College apprentices travelled to Coleg Cambria Deeside for the SkillBuild and SkillPlumb regional heats. The event featured a highly competitive field of colleges. Despite the intense competition, our apprentices demonstrated why Shrewsbury College is recognised for excellence in skills training.

Our apprentices secured two top spots in Carpentry! A huge congratualtions to James Onions - 1st place, and Ben Lloyd - 2nd place. Both delivered outstanding work, praised by WorldSkills judge Pat Phillips and staff from other competing colleges. Remarkably, James and Ben only learned they would be competing a week earlier, making their 1st and 2nd place finish even more impressive. Their performance now puts them in strong contention for qualification to the National Final.

Meanwhile in Plumbing, James Vickers and Will Turner both completed their copper frame tasks well within the allotted time. Although they did not place in the top three, BPEC Chief Executive Neil Collishaw noted that only eight points separated 1st and 6th place - a testament to the exceptionally high standard. James and Will still earned an impressive selection of prizes and we're incredibly proud of them for reaching regionals.

Shrewsbury College looks forward to supporting them in the upcoming regional heats and celebrating even more success in the months ahead.
