As the school and college terms come to an end and summer holidays begin, Shropshire Council is urging young people to celebrate safely and avoid the dangers of drugs, alcohol and water.

The council’s Public Health team are raising awareness of the dangers of hot weather, including the risks around open water, where drowning incidents increase during the summer months.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have also launched a campaign about hidden hazards in water.

The recent heatwave has lowered water levels, meaning hidden hazards can sit much closer to the surface than expected.

These hazards can include tree branches, metal poles, concrete posts, bicycles, shopping trolleys, and glass
