Shrewsbury College student Gracie has qualified for the WorldSkills UK National Final in Health and Social Care after progressing from more than 600 entrants nationwide to become one of only eight finalists in the UK.
We are delighted to share the fantastic news that Gracie, a first-year T Level Health: Supporting the Adult Nursing Team student and former Mary Webb School pupil, has secured a place in the WorldSkills UK National Finals for Health and Social Care.
After beginning her WorldSkills journey alongside around 600 entrants nationwide, Gracie successfully progressed through the regional qualifiers in June, where approximately 50 students demonstrated their practical, person-centred care skills in a series of challenging assessments. Following an outstanding performance, she has now been selected as one of only eight finalists in the UK.
WorldSkills competitions are designed to showcase the very best emerging talent in technical and vocational education. In the Health and Social Care competition, students are assessed on a range of skills that reflect real-life care settings, including communication, professionalism, problem-solving and the delivery of safe, compassionate, person-centred care.
Gracie has consistently impressed both staff and employers with her dedication and commitment. She has received excellent feedback from her industry placement, and we are incredibly proud that her hard work, both in and out of the classroom, has led to this exceptional achievement and opportunity.
The national final will take place at Coleg Gwent, Newport, from 17–20 November, where Gracie will compete against the other seven finalists for the national title.
Gracie's achievement continues Shrewsbury College's strong record of success in WorldSkills competitions. In recent years, students and apprentices from the college have gained national and international recognition through WorldSkills UK, including an apprentice selected to represent Team UK at the WorldSkills competition in Shanghai and students who achieved outstanding results in WorldSkills, SkillBuild and SkillPlumb competitions. These successes reflect the high standard of technical and vocational education delivered across the college.
