Shrewsbury College is proud to celebrate the exceptional results of its students in this year’s A Level, T Level, BTEC and vocational qualifications.
The college, which is both Shropshire’s largest post-16 provider and the county’s only Ofsted Outstanding school sixth form or college, saw over 1300 students complete A Level, T Level, BTEC and vocational courses this summer.
A Level results saw a significant increase in the A*/A/B high grades, outstripping the excellent results from the previous year:
- 99% pass rate at A Level for 868 students
- 51% A*/A/B high grades at A Levels
- 13 students achieved 3 A* or better
- 68 students achieved AAA or better in their A Levels
Jack Faherty, a former student of Belvidere School achieved four A* grades and will now study Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. Connor Jones (The Corbet School) also achieved four A* grades and will commence a five-year degree at the University of Manchester, studying Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Experience. Hope Mitchell (Adcote School) achieved four A* grades and will study Law with Criminology at the University of Birmingham. She will be joined at the University of Birmingham by Rose Kitcher (Meole Brace), who will be studying Biochemistry having achieved 5 A Levels, with two A* grades and three A grades.
The college’s second cohort of 115 T Level students achieved a brilliant set of results which are again amongst the very best in the country for this new, highly challenging set of qualifications:
- 100% pass rate compared with 93% nationally
- 37% Distinction* and Distinctions compared with 18% nationally
- 89% Distinction*, Distinctions and Merits compared with 52% nationally
More than 500 students also studied BTEC and other vocational qualifications, the equivalent of three A Levels:
- 102 students achieved D*D*D* (Triple Star Distinction, the equivalent of three A* grades at A Level) on Extended Diploma Courses
- 269 students achieved DDD (Triple Distinction, the equivalent of three A grades at A Level) or better on Extended Diploma Courses
James Staniforth, Principal of Shrewsbury College, expressed immense pride in the students and staff: "We are incredibly proud of our students and the results they have achieved this year. Their hard work, determination and commitment, combined with the support of our dedicated staff, have led to an excellent set of outcomes that will open doors to exciting futures. These results mean that 800 students will be starting university courses in the autumn, as well as taking up prestigious apprenticeships and other professional jobs."
