Hundreds of free glow sticks and candy canes for our community; read how we lit up the streets of Shrewsbury before the big count down!
If there’s one thing we learned at this year’s Shrewsbury Christmas Light Switch-On, it’s that nothing draws a crowd quite like glow sticks and candy canes. We were overwhelmed by the incredible turnout; you snapped up every last one before the countdown had even begun, and we loved every second of it. ❤️
It was especially lovely to see so many children absolutely light up (literally and figuratively!) when they got their glow sticks. Their excitement was infectious and we couldn’t help but wonder how many we might see again in years to come as future Shrewsbury College students.

And speaking of students, we were thrilled to bump into so many of our own current learners in the crowd too; you’re never too old for a bit of festive sparkle! ✨
The people of Shrewsbury have supported our college in countless ways over the years - whether through attending our events, trusting us with their education, or simply cheering us on from afar. Being able to give a little something back, even something as small (and sweet!) as a candy cane, felt like the perfect way to honour that connection. Seeing the night illuminated with our glowing gifts (and new branding!) was truly magical. We were reminded of how strong our community is, and how lucky we are to be part of it.

We also owe a massive thank you to the wonderful team of staff and student helpers who kept the festive spirit alive all night long. Their enthusiasm, and ability to distribute glow sticks at lightning speed, made the whole thing possible. If you're craving more festive cheer, the same lovely lot are part of this year's Pantomime, Aladdin, showcasing over four dates at London Road Campus from Monday 1 December - Wednesday 10 December. You can book here! 🎄
Most importantly, we hope everyone who joined us had as much fun as we did. Here’s to community, connection, and a Christmas that glows a little brighter.
