Discover what we got up to during Safe Nights Out Week, promoting smarter choices and safer nights for students.
At the beginning of the month, students across all three campuses came together to take part in Safe Nights Out Week, a programme of engaging activities designed to promote safer, more enjoyable nights out for everyone. The initiative focused on encouraging fun, friendship, and personal responsibility, while helping students understand and reduce the risks that can sometimes come with being out at night.
Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities, including
self-defence sessions, river safety and road safety awareness, drink and drug driving education, and anti-spiking guidance. Confidential advice was also available from
NHS nurses, alongside information about the
C-Card scheme and practical guidance on how to look after yourself and your friends when socialising.
Interactive workshops, awareness presentations, and drop-in information stands provided students with valuable, real-world advice. Topics ranged from recognising the effects of alcohol and staying alert in unfamiliar situations, to knowing when and how to seek help for themselves or others.
As the Christmas break approaches, a time when social events and nights out often increase - the importance of staying safe becomes even more vital. By making informed decisions, planning ahead, and looking out for one another, students can enjoy the festive period while reducing risks and staying well.
We'll leave you with some helpful contacts in case of a crisis over the Christmas break. We hope everyone has a fun and safe time!
