Discover why Freddie, and so many others, are excited about their future with us.
Curious about what to expect at a Shrewsbury College Open Evening? Hear firsthand from Freddie Milatos, a prospective student who joined us at our October event and shared his experience!

Can you tell us how you felt before arriving, were you nervous? Did you know what to expect?
"I had already been to the February Open Evening when I was in Year 10, as I wanted to start looking at what subjects were available, so knew the college had a wide range of subjects and great facilities. I knew what to expect but this time it felt more serious as it's time to narrow down my subject choices."
Can we hear a quick summary of your experience?
"We arrived at Welsh Bridge Campus first because I was focused on looking at Law and Economics. Check in was easy using a QR code and then we were handed a map. We could easily find our way about the campus using the map and there were lots of staff around to help. Once we'd looked at everything I was interested in, we travelled to English Bridge Campus. This is an easy 12 minute walk along Town Walls and it gave me a good idea of what to expect when I start college. I know I'll only need to do it once or twice a week but it's good to know the route."

What subjects caught your eye?
"I was particularly interested in Law, the content of the course seemed interesting and the teachers were really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I was intrigued by Sociology because the students shared their experience on the course and it was clear they all enjoyed it. Listening to the teacher talk about Economics made me feel excited about studying, I'm looking forward to learning more about this subject!"
Are there any subjects you weren't considering before Open Evening that you are now?
"I wasn't sure about picking Graphic Communication before the Open Evening, but once I spoke to the teacher and saw the work the students had produced, it moved into one of my top 4 choices!"

What was your favourite thing about each campus?
"My favourite thing about Welsh Bridge was the new LRC which looked like a great place to study and the outside space by the river, I can imagine it's a great lunch spot in the summer. The best thing about English Bridge is all the student artwork over the walls, it's clear lots of the students are very talented. I also liked the facilities, like all the Mac computers they've got - it felt really different to school."
How did you feel after leaving?
"When I left the Open Evening I felt less anxious about choosing subjects for taster sessions because I've now got a clear idea of what I want to do. It can feel daunting walking into such a big college, but the staff were so helpful I quickly felt at ease. If you don't like crowds, the February Open Evening might be better for you as it's much quieter.
I feel excited to start at such a great college!"
