Eligibility for FREE Level 2 Distance Learning Courses:

  • Be resident in England and live in a postcode area that is eligible for funding
  • Learners must be aged 19 years or over as of the current academic year
  • Have a Full Level 2 qualification if aged 19-23 (subject to a ULN check being undertaken)
  • Have lived in the EU for the last three years
  • How much does it cost?

    This course is currently being offered free of charge. If, however, the learner withdraws early without completing the course, a charge may be incurred to cover the cost of the course materials.

  • Who is it for?

    This qualification aims to develop the knowledge and skills required when providing positive care for people with dementia and their families. The Level 2 Award provides an awareness of the causes and symptoms of dementia. This qualification is aligned to the National Dementia Strategy.  Learners will develop an understanding and awareness of the causes and symptoms of dementia.

    It is suitable for anyone who wants to work in social care in either local authority or private care environments. It is also suitable for qualified practitioners who have not covered dementia care in previous qualifications.

  • Entry Requirements

    There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification; however learners might find it helpful if they've already achieved a Level 1 qualification in a health or social care related area.

  • What does the course involve?

    Successfully completing 7 mandatory units:

    Unit 1  Dementia awareness
    Unit 2 The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
    Unit 3 Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
    Unit 4 Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care|
    Unit 5 Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
    Unit 6 Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
    Unit 7 Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care

  • How is the course assessed?

    To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the 7 mandatory units.

  • Further Information

    To complete the Award you do not need to be working as it is a knowledge only qualification.

    Which type of job roles can you apply for on completion?

    This qualification supports progression to employment and progression within employment for the following job roles:

    • healthcare support service worker
    • clinical healthcare support worker
    • healthcare assistant
    • nursing assistant
    • mental health support worker
    • mental health outreach worker
    • substance misuse worker
    • personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families

    You can study this course online via the e-assessor learning portal or work from a paper-based resource pack and submit your assessments for marking by word document or handwritten. Our support staff and assessors are on hand to guide and help you throughout your qualification.
