A Levels

We have a reputation for excellence and offer the widest choice of A Levels in the county. Our students achieve high A Level pass rates that lead to places at the county’s top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

A Levels will suit you if you perform well in exams, you want to study a range of subjects or if you know that you want to follow a particular career path or study a particular subject at university. A Levels are two year courses with the whole of the course assessed through exams at the end of the two years. A Levels are mostly assessed by exams though some A Levels include coursework.

You can choose from a variety of A Levels as well as four BTEC/CTEC courses which are each the equivalent of one A Level.

A Level Classical Civilisation (English Combined and Health & Social Care BTEC)
Previous School: Meole Brace School

I have always enjoyed Classics and the Greek gods – Percy Jackson is my favourite book series. Classical Civilisation is a bit different from other A Levels and I love studying the heroes and myths. It also looks at an element of History and is overall a really interesting subject. I am going to continue Classics at University of Winchester, then I hope to become a Tour Guide in Greece and Italy – telling all my customers the interesting things about gods and mythology.

A Level Further Mathematics (Mathematics, Physics and German)
Previous Institution: Meole Brace School

Studying here has given me an even greater love of Maths because of the fantastic Maths department. The teachers are brilliant and I have access to all the resources I need. I got the opportunity to take part in the British Maths Olympiad and that really helped with my application to University. I am going to study Maths at St Johns College, Oxford University and I aspire to do academic research after that.

I really enjoy Chemistry and think it’s a great subject. I want to study Engineering at university and my Chemistry A Level will help. It is an exciting subject with loads of practical sessions. It allows you to investigate everyday things and discover how they work.

A Level Media Studies (Maths, Business)
Previous school: Mary Webb School

I chose Media Studies because I enjoy the subject and I wanted something creative to study alongside my other A Level choices. This is a course that gives you opportunities and focus, plus the teachers are so engaging. After College I am hoping to study media and culture at university.

A Level Textiles (Music, Psychology)
Previous school: Charlton School

The College had all the subjects I wanted and I really enjoy textiles. Studying it at A Level teaches you so many new skills. The teacher creates an environment where you can truly explore textiles and you always get the support you need. My favourite skill to learn was free hand stitching on the machine - I could be so expressive and free with it.
