  • Who is it for?

    This challenging course will develop the practical knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare students for their chosen career in the uniformed services. This course is designed to suit students who are ambitious, dedicated and career focused. Students will develop a variety of personal and academic skills which are important for a wide range of careers from the blue light services to the armed forces. Students must be fully committed, reliable and punctual, and have a strong work ethic.

  • Entry Requirements

    Internal progression from a Level 2 Diploma qualification with a distinction grade. For external applicants a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4.  For both types of applicants, students must have either Maths or English at grade 4.

  • What does the course involve?

    A keen interest in uniformed services, fitness, teamwork, current affairs, and the theoretical aspects of the services’ activities is essential. 100% effort, punctuality and attendance are required. There is an emphasis on discipline, physical fitness, and teamwork. In addition, students will complete assignments which will develop their academic writing and time management skills. Throughout the course there will be a strong emphasis on academic development and also a focus on developing personal skills and leadership through adventurous activities, including land-based adventurous activities and overnight expeditions.

    There are several units that you will cover on this course including:

    • Prepare for a career in a chosen service
    • Develop aspects of physical fitness for entry to the services
    • Equality, diversity, and inclusion
    • Outdoor and adventurous expeditions
    • Crime scene investigation
    • Emergency planning and response
    • Understand the impact of war and conflict
    • Develop leadership skills

     

    Course highlights

    Our expert teachers will, where possible, provide students with opportunities to participate in a range of practical and theory-based activities such as an army residential visit, recruitment theory testing, armed forces training days, competitions and access to external providers from the blue light services, cultural trips linked to the sociological curriculum and various guest speakers.

  • How is the course assessed?

     A combination of assignments, reports, presentations, formal observations and practical assessments.

  • Additional Notes

    Progression in Uniformed Services Level 3 Extended Diploma

    After successful completion of the Level 3 course, students will be ready to embark on a dedicated career in public services. Students may choose to join the armed forces, uphold the law as a police officer, protect communities as a firefighter, or it can open doors to diverse careers such as private security, border control or emergency management. 

    Alternatively, students may wish to continue their studies at university.

Where can it take me?

Police officers (sergeant and below)

Police officers (Sergeant and below) co-ordinate and undertake the investigation of crimes, patrol public areas, arrest offenders and suspects and enforce law and order. Officers of the British Transport Police operate within the specialised police service for the railway network across Britain.
