  • Who is it for?

    Students embark on a performing arts journey with our Level 2 Performing Arts Practice Diploma, a vibrant and engaging course designed to introduce them to the exciting world of performance. This programme offers a hands-on exploration of acting, dance, and musical theatre, allowing students to develop foundational skills through interactive workshops, rehearsals, and performance opportunities. Our curriculum, informed by industry insights, provides a well-rounded introduction to various disciplines, nurturing students creativity and versatility.

    Our dedicated teaching staff, with their blend of educational expertise and industry experience, will guide students through their learning, offering practical advice and encouragement. This diploma is a crucial first step, providing students with the essential skills and understanding needed to progress confidently towards further education and a deeper exploration of the performing arts industry.

  • Entry Requirements

    Minimum of 4 GCSEs (Grade 3) to include English at Grade 3 and Maths at Grade 2. Experience in performing arts. All students to take part in a group audition in September as part of induction week - to allow them to demonstrate teamwork, communication and suitability to the course.

  • What does the course involve?

    This Level 2 Performing Arts qualification, meticulously crafted through collaboration with educators and industry experts, provides a solid foundation for further study or training. Ensuring relevance to current industry practices, the curriculum focuses on developing essential skills and fostering an understanding of available roles and opportunities.

    The units students will study include:
    • Skills development for performing arts
    • Preparing for a performing arts production
    • Performing arts production
    • Creative interpretation
    • Audition and portfolio process
    • Audition practice and self-promotion skills
    • Employment planning and career opportunities.

    When preparing for a production, the students' regular timetable becomes a rehearsal schedule, which will include audition opportunities and technical and dress rehearsals. Students will also be required to attend evening performances.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Work is assessed through unit assignments, including practical classwork, development of performance skills, written evaluations, discussions, and presentations. A sample of assessed work is seen by an external verifier before final grades are confirmed.

  • Additional Notes

    On successful completion of the Level 2 course, students have gone on to various Level 3 courses here at Shrewsbury College. Students may want to continue their studies on our Performing Arts Practice Level 3 Diploma. Students have also gone on to study supported internships.

  • Other Details

    This course delivers invaluable industry exposure, featuring talks from working professionals, real-world audition experiences with industry feedback, and alumni-led workshops. Students will also engage in an off-site devised performance, culminating in a prestigious main stage performance at Theatre Severn, providing crucial practical experience and industry connections.

  • Further Information

    There are educational visits to London's West End, viewings of musical theatre, dramas and shows at Shakespeare's Globe.

    The course includes the opportunity to take part in shows and performances. We also invite guest performers in for workshops, talks and masterclasses.
