  • Who is it for?

    This course will help students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to work in the stimulating and rewarding education sector. Our experienced teaching staff will help students to learn the skills and techniques needed to work in this fascinating and rewarding industry.

    Students can expect to:
    • Gain an accredited Level 2 qualification
    • Gain employment as a Level 2 Teaching Assistant
    • Learn technical knowledge and practical skills
    • Gain relevant industry work experience
    • Develop industry relevant English and Maths skills, as well as digital skills
    • If students do not have English and or Maths they will have the opportunity to continue their studies to gain these qualifications as part of their timetable.

  • Entry Requirements

    A minimum of four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above (including English) and GCSE Maths at Grade 3, or a Level 1 qualification in Health and Social Care or Early Years settings. All students will have an enhanced DBS check through the college

  • What does the course involve?

    The course consists of 11 units that cover a wide range of areas including:
    • Children and young people’s development
    • Supporting children’s learning
    • Promoting young people’s positive behaviour and communication
    • Professional relationships.
    • Schools as organisations
    • Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
    • Safeguarding
    • Forest School
    • Students will receive an informative and helpful course handbook.

    Students will spend three days a week in college and two days a week on a placement in a local school for the duration of the course.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Students will be assessed through reports, reflective accounts, presentations, activity plans, displays, placement observations, case studies, story sacks and annotating policies.

  • Additional Notes

    There will be work placements of a minimum of two days a week and block placements during your study.

    - Forest School activities
    - Trips and Visits
    - Celebrating current events such as World Book Day.

    This qualification enables you to seek employment as a Level 2 teaching assistant or in other roles within the childcare industry. You could also progress to other qualifications such as the T Level in Education and Early Years and Level 3 apprenticeships.

  • Other Details

    This qualification enables students to seek employment as a Level 2 Teaching Assistant, providing crucial support to teachers and helping students thrive in learning environments. Students could also take on other roles within the childcare industry, making a positive impact on the lives of children and young learners.

    Alternatively, students could progress to other qualifications such as the T Level in Early Years Educator and apprenticeships for further specialisation and advancement.

  • Further Information

    Students will gain a Level 1 Forest School Certificate through practical activities on our Forest School site. Guest speakers, Makaton training, trips, events (World Book Day), and Bubble Magic.
