Exciting Overseas Work Placement Opportunity – Turing Scheme
We are delighted to inform you of an exciting opportunity available to Shrewsbury College students through the UK Government’s Turing Scheme – a programme that supports international study and work placements for students in further and higher education.
As part of our commitment to providing enriching, real-world experiences that enhance employability and personal development, we are offering selected students the chance to participate in overseas work placements in partnership with Think Pacific.
What is the Turing Scheme?
The Turing Scheme is the UK’s global programme for studying and working abroad. It enables students to gain valuable international experience, develop new skills, and broaden their horizons – all while enhancing their CV and future career prospects. The scheme is inclusive and designed to support students from all backgrounds.
What Does the Opportunity Involve?
Selected students will have the chance to:
- Undertake a 15-night study and work placement in either Bali or Thailand.
- Gain hands-on experience in their technical, vocational and academic area, working with international professionals.
- Immerse themselves in a new culture, improving confidence, independence, and global awareness.
- Receive significant funding for travel, accommodation, and enrichment costs.
- Placements are tailored to students’ study programmes and career aspirations and are supervised by both Shrewsbury College staff and Think Pacific to ensure safety and quality.

Who Can Apply?
This opportunity is open to students across a range of technical, vocational and academic programmes, though places are limited to 90 students only.
For technical and vocational programmes, there are 70 places available, with 10 places allocated for each of the following areas:
- Catering
- Uniformed Services
- Beauty
- Childcare
- Dance & Performing Arts
- Travel & Tourism
- Business.
For our academic programmes, there are 20 places available across four of the following areas:
- Politics
- Economics
- Business
- Geography.
Priority will be given to students who demonstrate:
- A strong commitment to their studies and an excellent attendance record.
- A determination to achieve by having submitted all expected and required work.
- A representation of themselves to the highest of standards, linked to behaviour and attitude.
- A willingness to engage with new experiences.
- The potential to benefit personally and professionally from the placement.
Key Dates
- Trip 1 - Bali (7 February – 21 February 2026): Technical & Vocational Students (Catering, Uniformed Services, Beauty, Childcare, Dance & Performing Arts).
- Trip 2 - Thailand (16 May – 30 May 2026): Technical & Vocational Students (Travel & Tourism and Business).
- Trip 3 - Thailand (27 June – 11 July 2026): Academic A Levels (Politics, Economics, Business, and Geography).
Project Costings
Such opportunities as this are usually very expensive. We are pleased to share with you that as part of our successful bid, Shrewsbury College secured the maximum amount of funding, enabling us to fund most of the overall cost. Therefore, for successfully selected students, there will be a student financial contribution required to cover remaining costs, with the amount dependent on the country visited.
The student contribution for Bali is up to and a maximum of £185, and for Thailand, the student contribution is up to and a maximum of £150.
What does this include?
- 15-day Global Mobility Project
- All in-country transportation by private minibus
- Accommodation
- All meals as per itinerary (still TBC)
- All project activities, inclusive of weekends
- Think Pacific T-Shirt
- Departure and return transportation.

Eligible students have already been shared the pre-launch presentation video and received an invite to attend the official launch of the project held today, Wednesday, 1 October, presented by both the Vice Principal Matt Laws and a representative from Think Pacific.

It is envisaged that this will generate a large volume of applications for the limited places available. Students will be expected to make a formal application using the buttons below during the application window between 2 October and 12 October 2025. An impartial selection process will take place after 12 October, with students being informed of the outcome via their college email address.
