Who is it for?
This Supported Internship programme has been developed in partnership with Project Search and the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust (SaTH). It is a one-year programme that is aimed at young people aged 18-24 with an EHCP.
-
Entry Requirements
Students will need to be aged 18-24 and hold an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that has been issued by the relevant Local Authority. All candidates will be interviewed for suitability and take part in a selection day. Students must also be highly motivated and have a desire to secure paid employment after the programme concludes.
-
What does the course involve?
The programme is based in the real working environment of a local hospital, where students will participate in workplace rotations. Students will be able to select roles that reflect their interests and ambitions, including catering, education, administration, domestics, estates, and portering. Students will also participate in short classroom sessions to help them develop the skills they need for the world of work.
Working with a tutor and a job coach, students will have the opportunity to learn and practice essential skills in the context of work.
Students will develop enhanced communication skills, behaviour and conduct awareness for the workplace, and safe working practices. Students will also continue to develop the literacy and numeracy skills that they will need in the workplace.
-
How is the course assessed?
Students will be trained to complete a variety of tasks and will be continuously assessed in the workplace, receiving feedback and support to help them meet the required standards. Students will work towards personal and work-based targets to help them be successful in gaining employment after the programme. The students' job coach will help them develop the skills needed to be an effective employee.
