  • Who is it for?

    Creative Music Industry is a fantastic subject to study at Shrewsbury College. We have three dedicated recording studios and two production suites that have been recently upgraded to professional standards with the latest analogue and digital hardware. We operate with industry-standard software Logic Pro X. These exciting facilities are backed by expert and experienced teaching staff.

  • Entry Requirements

    A minimum of four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above OR a pass in a Level 1 qualification and an ability to demonstrate a clear enthusiasm for music production and/or performance.

  • What does the course involve?

    This Level 2 RSL qualification is an excellent foundation for developing skills in music production or music performance. The course also offers the opportunity to improve confidence and interpersonal skills in a supportive environment.

    Students will develop theoretical and practical skills in studio recording, music performance, and music sequencing whilst learning about the music industry.

    You will study:
    • Music Sequencing and Production
    • Composing Music (Styles)
    • Sound Mixing
    • How the Music Industry Works
    • Creating a Social Media Strategy
    • Music Artist and You
    • Recording Sound.

    Specialist units include:
    • DJing
    • Rehearsal skills
    • Music performance
    • Studio recording.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Work is assessed through unit assignments, including practical classwork, development of performance skills, written evaluations, discussions, and presentations.

  • Additional Notes

    We offer progression to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Production or Performance, where students build on their repertoire of musical skills gained in this qualification with advanced music techniques and skills, honing and refining their knowledge.

  • Further Information

    Our exciting facilities are backed by expert teachers who are active in the music industry, using their industry knowledge and skills to inform their teaching and prepare students for the realities of working in the music business. Our students regularly have their music played by BBC Introducing, gain valuable work experience with local venues and live sound companies, have regular performance opportunities in local venues and have opportunities to work on the college fashion show, corporate events, external and in-house theatre productions. There is also the opportunity take part in workshops with industry professionals from the Musician’s Union, James Aitkin (EMF), local live production companies including Pro Audio Services. This year the college has its own stage for Loopfest, a local multivenue music festival. Our students will be working at the festival as well as performing on stage at multiple venues around Shrewsbury.
