Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Plumbing

The City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Plumbing (8202‑35) is designed for students who want to develop advanced technical and practical skills in the plumbing and domestic heating sector. It builds on Level 2 knowledge and prepares students for employment or progression to an NVQ Level 3 or an apprenticeship. 

Successful completion of a Level 2 Plumbing qualification.

GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above. 

Core Units

• Health and Safety
• Plumbing system installation planning
• Complex cold-water systems
• Domestic hot water systems
• Sanitation and drainage
• Central heating systems
• Domestic gas principles
• Environmental technology systems
• Career awareness about the industry

Advanced Technical Content Includes

• Complex hot and cold‑water system design
• Central heating installation and commissioning
• Fault diagnosis and system efficiency
• Environmental technologies (e.g. renewables)
• Industry‑standard working practices

Students are assessed through a combination of:

• Synoptic practical assessmentsin the workshop
• Written assignments
• End‑point theory exam

After completing the qualification, students may progress to:

• Level 3 Plumbing Apprenticeship
• Employment as an advanced plumber, domestic heating installer, plumbing maintenance technician
