The demand for chefs and front of house within this sector is high and the skills set you will acquire will equip you for a wide range of career opportunities anywhere in the world. In-house competitions and workshops are held regularly and students regularly win awards at local and national culinary competitions.
Having the College Rosette status attracts large and small employers from top restaurants and hotels nationally, as does our own commercial restaurant Origins, which enjoys a great reputation in Shropshire for exciting menus using local ingredients.
We have strong links with local and national employers and during your course you will take part in a work placement which will extend your industrial knowledge and prepare you for the workplace.
Whether you are a school leaver looking to start a career or already working in the industry and want to develop your professional skills, we have full and part-time courses available including Catering Start-up, Apprenticeships and Level 1 - 3 Diplomas.
Once qualified you will have the skills to embark upon a vibrant and rewarding career within the hospitality and catering Industry. You could follow in the footsteps of our past students whose progression includes working in top hotels and commercial restaurants throughout the country.
I have learnt so many skills on the course, it has helped me to get a great job straight from College, which is fantastic.
Every year students enter competitions including the North West Young Chef Competition and Nestlé Toque d'Or where they regularly win awards. This year students were extremely successful at the Welsh International Culinary Champions, winning 17 medals.
Possible careers include Pastry Chef, Restaurant Supervisor, Head Chef and Kitchen Manager or to work within international restaurants, hotels, cruise liners, Armed Forces or even provide you with skills to set up your own catering business. From Level 1 you have the opportunity to work as a Commis Chef and from Level 2 you become a Demi Chef de Partie. From Level 3, you could become a Chef de Partie. Within Hospitality, if you choose to continue onto Level 3, you could pursue a career as a restaurant manager, front-of-house manager or specialise as a sommelier, or progress to higher education which can also lead to events management.

I get a huge amount of satisfaction being a tutor and seeing the progression of student chefs as they develop their knowledge and skills, ready to start their careers.
