Flash mob in town centre as students take their show on the road
Performing Arts students from Shrewsbury College will be taking their performance of cult classic, Little Shop of Horrors on the road next month at Theatre Severn.
The students who performed the show at the Performing Arts Theatre at London Road, all last week to sell-out audiences, took their props, including the giant plant Audrey 2, to the town’s Square this week to perform ‘flash mob’ scenes from their play ahead of the shows at Theatre Severn.
Former Performing Arts HND student Cici Howells, is also coming in to do a choreograph piece of commercial dance with the students later this month, which will be performed at Theatre Severn on the afternoon of the 12th of June.
After completing her HND in 2010, Cici went on to study Musical Theatre at the Musical Theatre Academy in London. She is now represented by one of the top agencies in the city and has appeared in productions of Thoroughly Modern Millie and most recently the Threepenny Opera as Polly.
Cici also won the prestigious Richard Williams Musical Theatre prize in 2011 and has returned to the College to run industry standard dance workshops for current students.
The year 1 and 2, Level 3 students have spent the week performing their version of the play to the public at Shrewsbury College’s Performing Arts theatre, ahead of their summer showcase at Theatre Severn.
Michael Jenkins, Performing Arts Teacher at Shrewsbury College, said: “The show is packed full of comedy and romance which is guided by a superb score and stylish writing.
“I’m extremely proud of all of the students who have worked exceptionally hard this last week and the response we’ve had from the public has been extremely positive and encouraging.” He continued.
“We think it’s important the students get a taste of working in the industry, and putting on a full production at Theatre Severn is a great way for them to gain valuable experience, and to perform in front of a larger audience.
“We would like to encourage the general public to come along next month and witness the spectacle that will be on offer.”
Performances will be held on 11 and 12 June at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 and £5 concessions. To book tickets please call Theatre Severn box office on 01743 281281 or visit their website, www.theatresevern.co.uk
