American Football touches down at Shrewsbury College
If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at a huddle or score your own touch down, then the first ever American Football taster session at Shrewsbury College next week could be the thing for you.
The county sports partnership, Energize Shropshire Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire Revolution American Football Club have linked up with Shrewsbury College in the first community collaboration of its kind with the sport.
The first session, is being held on Tuesday, November 12, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Shrewsbury College’s London Road Campus and is free for anyone in the community aged 15-19.
Ben Harper from the Shropshire Revolution American football team which competes in the British league, said: “This is the first time we have run a community outreach programme and we picked Shrewsbury College because we know of the Principal’s passion for the sport and for working with the community.
“We have liaised closely with Bafa and Energize STW to see where we can take this sport, within Shropshire”
Principal of Shrewsbury College, Steve Wain, is a big fan of the sport and has championed the move. He said: “I hope any young people interested in trying this sport come along to join in our free taster session on Tuesday. It is hoped we will run weekly sessions and develop a team here at the College.
“I am thrilled that this collaboration has come to fruition and that we have been chosen to showcase this activity with the community. It is just one of the exciting new offerings that we have here to help give our students and the wider community a diverse choice in their learning and activities.”
