Former student receives top honours
A former Shrewsbury College student has been recognised for his service to the design industry with an OBE.
Edward Barber, who studied an Art & Design Foundation Diploma at the College in 1988, was awarded the prestigious honour at the Queen’s recent birthday celebrations in London.
“Edward’s award has been a real inspiration for the students,” said Shrewsbury College Art & Design Lecturer, Ed Catley. “He has demonstrated how a career can develop after College and what can be achieved.”
Mr Barber co-founded the internationally acclaimed design firm BarberOsgerby in 1996. Since then the company has been commissioned by the likes of Sony, Venini and Swarovski, received numerous design awards and exhibited work in the V&A Museum and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. BarberOsgerby recently beat more than 600 companies from around the world to win the tender for the London 2012 Olympic torch.
