Beccy scores with scholarship
A star sport student, who captains her College football team, is celebrating after securing a place on a prestigious university scholarship.
Shrewsbury College student Beccy Phillips, 18, will study Sport and Exercise Science at Liverpool John Moore’s University in September. Having excelled in her studies at College, she gained a place on the Dream Plan Achiever’s scholarship, which rewards academic excellence.
“Beccy is brilliant in class and has inspired her peers on the sports teams,” said Shrewsbury College Sport Tutor, John Day. “She has also been recognised at the department’s student of the year.”
“I’ve made some really good friends at Shrewsbury College and the course has bought me out as a person,” said Beccy. “Two years ago I probably wouldn’t have gone to university because I was so shy, but now I’m really looking forward to going and meeting new people.”
“I’d like to come back to Shrewsbury College when I finish uni to do a PGCE and teach sport,” she added.
Beccy helped set up and then captioned the College’s first ever women’s football team, who reached the semi-finals of the County Cup earlier this year. She was also the top scorer for the netball team and was integral in encouraging others to join the squad.
