Rock drummer presents college awards

Shrewsbury College hosted it’s annual End of Year Awards Ceremony earlier this week with special guest Jon Brookes from top British rock band, The Charlatans.

The evening saw 13 Music Technology students recognised for their efforts, with eighteen-year-old Ryan Perkins scooping the Jon Brooks Award for Endeavour.

“I have really enjoyed working with Shrewsbury College,” said Mr Brookes. “I was very flattered to have an award named after me and am honoured to come and present it for the second year running.”

The event, which was attended by family and friends, saw Mr Brookes and Music Technology students battle it out on the drums. A variety of student bands and solo artists also performed.

The awards ceremony was part of the College’s annual Arts & Skills Festival, a series of events held throughout the summer to celebrate the best of Shrewsbury College students through music, fashion, drama and media.
