Our courses are designed to meet the evolving markets in a breadth of therapy and health & social care employment areas. We have been delivering foundation degree courses in these areas in partnership with universities for six years.
Highly-skilled staff educated to post-graduate level and beyond, with a breadth of current, relevant and industry experience will take you through your paces. All our counselling tutors are current practitioners and are either members of BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) or accredited members of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy).
We have dedicated counselling facilities as well as ‘breakout’ rooms to allow you to effectively practice the skills you are developing - skills which will enable you to establish the basic foundations for entering the counselling profession or to supplement your existing professional practice. Our award leads you to a professional counselling qualification and can be included towards BACP Accreditation.
Existing learners at Shrewsbury College who work in the counselling sector have contributed to the development of this programme and to the Level 6 top-up award to BSc (Hons) in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
Our Health & Social Care students go on to top up their degree at a range of universities and to work in areas including midwifery, nursing, physiotherapy and as paramedics.
Counselling students have gained employment with local and national companies such as Headway, CAMHS (for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and Drug & Alcohol services. Other students have changed roles within their existing employment which incorporates their counselling practice or set-up their own private practice.
