Entry requirements

A basic level of understanding of computers, Microsoft software and basic keyboarding skills.

Who is it for?

The purpose of these qualifications is to develop and recognise learners' IT skills and knowledge and enable them to use IT effectively in their daily lives. These qualifications are designed to prepare learners for employment in the IT sector and they are suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a specific area of work within the IT industry. The OCR Level 2 Award or Certificate for IT Users Skills (ITQ) is a natural progression route.

What does the course involve?

The course offers hands on experience to ensure confident and competent use of computers at this level and will provide invaluable experience in the many software applications in the workplace. In order to achieve the OCR Level 1 Certificate in IT Users Skills (ITQ) learners must achieve a minimum of 13 credits. The units below are available to study: Mandatory Unit - Improving Productivity Using IT (3 credits); Optionional Units - Word Processing (3 credits); Spreadsheets (3 credits); Presentations (3 credits); Using Email (2 credits)

How is the course assessed?

You will work under tuition at your own pace. Once a unit is completed you will undertake sample assignments building up to the assignment, which is marked by your tutor and externally moderated by an OCR examiner.

Additional notes

A memory stick would be useful to store your work. You may find it useful to buy a reference book to support your studies; details will be advised by the tutor at the first session.
