At Shrewsbury College, we believe your educational journey should extend beyond the classroom. Our enrichment program is a vital part of your holistic education, designed to complement your academic pursuits with a diverse range of activities that cater to every interest. These activities are more than just fun; they are crucial for personal and professional development, allowing you to explore new interests, discover hidden talents, and develop essential soft skills like teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving.     Silent Disco Join the college enrichment team for Silent Discos happening across the campuses. Enjoy a range of music, and if you don't like our tunes, you get to be the DJ!     Volunteer to Career: Midwifery Would you like to start a career in Midwifery? “Volunteer to Career” is a successful programme which supports a route into work in the healthcare sector.     Young Enterprise Young Enterprise's Company Programme empowers young people to set up and run a student company under the guidance of a volunteer. Students make all the decisions about their business, from deciding on the company name, managing the company finances and selling to the public.     Model United Nations Model United Nations—also known as MUN—is a popular extra-curricular activity in which students roleplay delegates to the United Nations, simulate UN committees, and learn about diplomacy, international relations, current world issues, and the UN itself. MUN conferences help students develop public speaking, writing, and research skills as well as an entry point into international affairs and concepts including peace and security, human rights, development, and rule of law issues. By learning about the UN as an institution, its role in world affairs, and the diplomacy involved in UN decisions, students also learn the importance of seeing matters from someone else’s perspective.  As well as regular sessions on campus, you will also have the opportunity to attend a number of MUN conferences across the country.     Duke of Edinburgh Gold Shrewsbury College is a licensed organisation to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to its students.  We offer the Gold award to students, which includes a taught component delivered fortnightly.  Students complete 5 sections at Gold: Physical, Skills, Volunteering, Residential and of course, the student favourite: the Expedition.  The Agency and DofE teams support students to complete all sections for their award, which is presented each year at Buckingham Palace.     Lessons from Auschwitz Lessons from Auschwitz offers students the opportunity to develop their historical understanding of the Holocaust and apply that learning to contemporary issues. Through participation in Lessons from Auschwitz, students enhance their skills and show leadership - demonstrating commitment outside of the classroom through sharing the legacy of this dark period in history. Upon successful completion of the project, all participants receive an ASDAN accredited certificate, and can share their involvement on UCAS and other applications.     NHS Young Volunteers This youth volunteering programme with Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals Trust (SaTH) is aimed at 16 and 17 year olds who are interested in a future job in healthcare.  There are many areas volunteers can access placements throughout SaTH hospitals. Volunteers can meet patients and direct them to right area of the hospitals, or assist staff with drink rounds and mealtimes on the wards, or they can be run errands to help patients to get home faster – there are may ways volunteers help support staff and patients.  We ask all volunteers for a minimum commitment of 6 months/50 hours of volunteering (however many of volunteers are happy to stay with us for longer). We ask for a weekly commitment of at least 3-4 hours per week, however this can vary according to specific volunteer roles. We aim to be flexible, with volunteer placements available during the day, evenings and weekends.  This programme is co-ordinated by The Agency team in college in partnership with SaTH.     Senior Physics Challenge Students prepare and then sit in March a challenging Physics paper in which they can achieve a gold, silver or bronze award.     Zoo experience (VetSoc members) SC students have the opportunity to volunteer at Exotic Zoo, an award-winning small zoo in Telford.  Students will volunteer from 9am - 5.00pm, 1 day a week for a minimum of 6 months, full training is provided by Exotic Zoo.  This enrichment activity is ideal for those thinking about careers with animals and is currently available as a pilot scheme for students on academic programmes who are part of VetSoc.
