Hair, Beauty & Therapies
Courses cover a wide spectrum from Levels 1-3 in Hairdressing, Barbering, Make-up and Nail Technician and Beauty Therapy to a Level 3 in Complementary Therapies. We offer Apprenticeships at intermediate and advanced levels in both hairdressing and beauty.
As a student you will be training in the impressive, purpose-built facilities of our commercial hair and beauty training salons where you will develop all the professional skills, competencies and knowledge needed to work in your chosen discipline. Regular competitions are carried out within the College and judged by influential, local employers. Furthermore students have entered national competitions such as Blackpool National Hairdressing competition and Worldskills where they have achieved gold awards.
We have strong links with employers, enabling students to attend work placements during their course, extending their commercial knowledge and facilitating networking amongst professionals. The result is that our qualified students leave as highly employable individuals with strong CVs.
Careers in hairdressing and beauty require excellent communication skills, a high standard of personal presentation and a strong work ethic but in return offer a wealth of interesting opportunities in salons and spas, as stylists for TV, film, theatre or advertising agencies. Many beauty therapists and hairdressers set up their own business after working in the industry for a number of years.
I’ve been working at a local salon alongside my studies, which was a lot of work, but manageable as I love hairdressing.
All fifteen Level 3 students studying Beauty Therapy and Complementary Therapy in 2017 have all acquired employment in their chosen fields. Students are regularly entered for national competitions such as the Blackpool National Hairdressing competition and Worldskills, where they have achieved gold awards. At Imagine Spa at The Shrewsbury Club we have a successful partnership with Shrewsbury College - most of our staff, including me, were trained at the College. I went on to University and now I am the manager of the Spa. I would not hesitate to hire students from Shrewsbury College, as I received such great training and gained much confidence from studying there.
