Launching Shrewsbury’s Biggest Year 11 Progression Events

The newly formed Shrewsbury Colleges Group - made up of Shrewsbury College and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College - welcomed approximately 1,700 visitors including over 530 students to their Year 11 Progression Events, held at the prestigious Shrewsbury Town Football Club on Wednesday 28th September and at the London Road Campus this week.

The events also featured eleven other schools and colleges for Further Education as well as the Combined Armed Forces, Shropshire Youth and County Training, amongst others.

Presentations were given by Lyn Surgeon (Interim Principal and CEO), Paul Morgan (Interim Head of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College) and Catherine Armstrong (Group Vice Principal Curriculum Support and Business Development) which enabled students to gain an understanding of further education, allowing them to make an informed decision about their future prospects; whether this be A Levels, vocational studies or Apprenticeships.

“It’s been very useful to know the possible paths to take for my future… It has helped me make my mind up on what to do next,” commented Jess Williams, student at Meole Brace School.

Parents were also delighted: “The event was a catalyst for our son to start focusing on what he wants to do post-GCSE. There was a good variety of institutions represented at the event. Speakers were very clear and gave great presentations. Thank you for all the hard work that went into the event.”

Current students from all three campuses of the Shrewsbury Colleges Group helped to support the event by meeting the visitors and sharing first-hand experiences of the colleges with them.
