Shrewsbury Student bags job with Shropshire Festivals after impressive work experience stint

A student from Shrewsbury College impressed bosses at Shropshire festivals so much during her work experience she was offered a job.

Sinead Mulloch, a Level 3 Travel & Tourism student at Shrewsbury College, undertook the two weeks work experience in May with Shropshire Festivals, which organises the Shropshire Kids Festival, Shrewsbury Food Festival, Shrewsbury Winter Festival and the new Shropshire Oktoberfest.

Sinead, 20, from Bishops Castle, spent two weeks working for the organisation in May, hoping to gain valuable experience to help with her studies and future career aspirations.

She helped with organising the Shropshire Kids Festival, administration tasks and volunteering at the festival held last month in the Quarry Park, Shrewsbury.

She said: “I really enjoyed the experience and hoped it would help me secure a job with the company. As part of the course we have to undertake work experience to develop our events, customer services and marketing skills. I am really enjoying the course and getting this job is helping me decide it’s what I really want to do.”

Director of Fun at Shropshire Festivals, Beth Heath, said: “Sinead has been employed in a personal assistant capacity in the office, offering marketing support. We need someone who has a lot of spark about them and we liked Sinead’s personality and her enthusiasm. This is the first time we have taken on a work experience student from Shrewsbury College.”

Shrewsbury College and Shropshire Festivals have both recently become members of Shropshire Tourism, to help promote the town and events within in.

Jackie Swan, Curriculum Leader for Travel and Tourism at Shrewsbury College, said: “Through being members, we aim to build strong links and partnerships with businesses and local employers to establish professional work experience opportunities for our students, as well as career pathways into employment – like this one with Shropshire Festivals.”
