ITVs The Voice audition young talent at Shrewsbury Colleges Group

Thirty young hopefuls who wanted their ‘Voice’ to be heard, auditioned in front of talent scouts for ITV’s The Voice at Shrewsbury College this week.

The ITV talent show takes the singing hopefuls through five stages: producers' auditions, blind auditions, battle phase, knockouts, and live shows. The winner receives £100,000 and a record deal with Universal Republic. There have been five winners to date: Leanne Mitchell, Andrea Begley, Jermain Jackman, Stevie McCrorie and Kevin Simm.

On Tuesday afternoon, the auditionees prepared a song either acapella or to a backing track and performed live in front of The Voice talent scouts at the closed auditions.

The singers, made up of current and former Shrewsbury Colleges Group students and a handful of hopefuls from local secondary schools, had five minute slots in which to prove their talent.

The auditions in this pre-audition round were all filmed and any successful candidates will be seen by producers before progressing onto the live shows.

Chris Pemberton Group Vice Principal for Quality and Curriculum at Shrewsbury Colleges Group, said: “We are delighted that The Voice producers chose to come to the College and see what exceptional talent we have here. Researchers scour the country looking for the brightest talent to take through to the live shows in front of the judges and with the strong field we are hosting here we are confident that the students will be in with a chance.

“A number of our current and past students jumped at the chance to audition and we also contacted the local secondary schools to make the year 11s aware. Our available slots filled up in no time and we were able to add a few more. We’ll be keeping in touch with the show to see if any of our ‘hopefuls’ progress through to perform on the live shows.”

The Voice UK is open to solos and duos and all musical styles are welcome. To enter The Voice you need to be 16 years old on or before 1 October, 2017. For more information, please go to
