Budding Shrewsbury Filmmaker Sets his Sights on Hollywood

It’s all lights, camera and action for a budding local cameraman, Chris Davies, who claims that “not being great at school” encouraged him into one of the most exciting, fastest growing and most highly paid industries in the world.

At 24, Chris is now an inspiringly enthusiastic freelance cameraman based in Liverpool, working full-time on feature films and TV productions. “There is a lot of work for creative camera operators, it’s a fantastic area to be in.”

After school, Chris studied Creative Media Production at Shrewsbury College.  He is very positive about the courses he undertook.  “When I started at the College I really found my passion for film - the tutors are so knowledgeable and engaging, which is infectious. We were given a lot of scope to be creative and shoot what we wanted to - it actually was more valuable in many ways than my degree and gave me that first, critical step into industry.” He then went on to Edgehill University to study a degree in Film and Television Production which helped him to land his first role as a Camera Trainee.

“I’ve met some fantastic actors while working, such as John Hurt and Tom Roth. My dream is to become a Director of Photography in Hollywood. The film industry is in a league of its own over there!”
