Former Shrewsbury College Art Foundation student, Jessica Barker, has returned to the department as the first ever Artist in Residence.

Jessica graduated from Leeds College of Art & Design earlier this year, after completing a BA Hons in Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design.

“I’m currently applying for my PGCE so I can teach secondary level art,” she explained. “I originally approached Shrewsbury College for some work experience, but as they had never had an Artist in Residence before, we decided that it would be beneficial for both the students and my practice if I was here for the year.”

“I’m mainly based in screen printing, so I’ll be running workshops for students on how to use the College’s print room facilities. A few students have approached me for advice and I’m here to help anyone who wants to know more about printing techniques or my experiences of higher education.”

Jessica’s work is displayed throughout her dedicated studio space at the Art School. She is based at the College for three days a week.
