College on track for 100 in 100 challenge

Shrewsbury College has been inundated with Apprenticeship enquiries as part of the Shropshire ‘100 in 100’ challenge, despite the initiative only being launched at the Guildhall, Shrewsbury on Monday.

‘100 in 100’ challenges colleges and training providers in the county to generate 100 Apprenticeship placements in local businesses within the next 100 days.

Jayne Spence, Apprenticeship Manager at the College said “Shrewsbury College offers Apprenticeships all year round, but this initiative has really helped to raise the profile of how valuable apprentices are to local businesses.”

“In the past couple of weeks we have received increased enquiries for apprentices in a variety of sectors.  The interest at the ‘100 in 100’ launch event has already brought many more enquiries, so we’re feeling really positive about hitting our targets in Shropshire.”

More than 100 employers attended the launch event on Monday, where they heard first-hand from six apprentice employers. Out of the six, three had chosen to take on their apprentices through Shrewsbury College, successfully working in partnership to ensure their apprentices gain a good balance of theory and practical training.

Students and employers interested in Apprenticeships are encouraged to attend one of the College’s Advice Events on either Monday 6 February from 2 – 7pm at London Road or Monday 19 March from 5 – 7pm at the Radbrook campus. Staff will be on hand at both events to offer help and guidance.
