Learning Support for HE Students

We recognise that taking a step into higher level study can be a bit daunting, to help you with this we have a Learning Resource Centre with dedicated HE resources and a Study Skills support programme.

Learning Resource Centre (LRC)

As a student using the Learning Resource Centre you will find a friendly team working to help you succeed on your chosen course. The LRC offer print and online resources in your subject area as recommended by your reading lists and experienced staff are on hand to deal with your enquiries. Computers in the LRC give you access to the internet for research; Moodle for your course materials and Office 365 for office applications and cloud storage.

The LRC is Wi-Fi enabled for you to use your own device. All student computers have the My Study Bar programme installed and there are several licences for ZoomText as required. Two student laptops have Dragon software installed and these can be loaned for an interim period if necessary.

If you are returning to study or progressing onto a Higher Education course, the LRC staff can help you make that transition with advice on study and information searching skills and literature which will help you to develop your academic skills in readiness for enrolment on your chosen course.

The LRC is here to support you and welcome all enquiries. For more information please visit moodle.shrewsbury.ac.uk and browse our Learning Resources area.

Learning Resources for HE Students

As well as general study areas in the LRC there is also a Higher Education study room within the LRC which offers dedicated computers and a quiet area for HE students to work in. We have spent £15m on the campus over the last few years improving facilities and from September 2017 work will commence on the creation of a HE centre which will result in a teaching and learning space dedicated to HE learners.

Student Support Tutor - HE

The Student Support Tutor for HE will run a study skills support programme throughout the academic year. This will cover academic skills such as:

These will be advertised and accessible to all HE students. The HE tutor will also be available to work with and support learners with an identified additional learning need or disability. If you’re a current HE student or perspective HE student with additional learning needs the sooner you inform us the earlier we can discuss and advise you on the support available for you while you study.
