We’ve been teaching Art & Design at the College since 1855 – in fact – we started life as an art college so we know we have a fine heritage in this area and are proud of it. We moved into HE in Fashion, Performing Arts, Music, 3D Design and Art & Design around a decade ago and have now introduced Creative Media Production to our course options. We offer a range of creative vocational and employment-focussed courses to help you get ahead in a wide range of creative industries.

Our highly-skilled creative lecturers include practising, award-winning and exhibiting artists and performers and those with years of industry-experience under their belts - who are adept at linking their vocational research-based activities to their teaching.

We have established an excellent reputation in the fields of Performing Arts, Music Fashion, 3D Design and Art & Design providing a challenging and supportive learning environment that enables our students to graduate as industry-ready creative professionals.

Our Art School has dedicated studio spaces, a photography darkroom, PC and Mac suites, specialist printmaking facilities.
Our media suites offer refurbished workshops, light, spacious studios, dedicated CAD rooms, state-of-the-art teaching spaces and seminar rooms, along with a range of social spaces and we have three new sound-proofed, 8 - track recording studios with acoustic boards and control rooms offering a high quality audio interface for music students. The studios use Pro Tools II - the latest version of industry-standard recording software.

If you study fashion with us you will be learning in our fully equipped fashion studio and exploring your own style and direction to become an individual practitioner/designer/artist.

Performers will learn in our professional black box theatre which includes professional lighting and our 105m2 dance studio with sprung floor, mirrored wall, playback for sound and ballet bars.

These facilities reflect professional working environments where you can create and develop your own projects within a communal studio space. There are links with arts practitioners both locally and nationally that regularly feed into Creative Arts & Media programmes as well as with local universities.

Previous students have progressed to first choice universities including St Martins, Goldsmiths University, London School of Fashion, The Slade and Birmingham City University, gained international performance work and employment in the West End or started-up as designers/makers running their own craft-based enterprises or join the creative industries.
