  • Who is it for?

The AM2 Assessment in its various forms (AM2 / AM2S / AM2S VERSION 1) is designed for electrical installation apprentices coming towards the end of their apprenticeship framework. The AM2E (AM2E (Exp) / AM2E VERSION 1.1) is for experienced workers who are completing the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA).

By taking the AM2 exam you will demonstrate that you have a level of competence expected by the industry.

  • Entry Requirements

Candidates should possess the underpinning knowledge and practical skills in all of the assessment areas specified. The candidate self-assessment check list must be completed prior to undertaking the assessment. It is expected that candidates will be working towards a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrical Installation.

For the AM2E (Exp) Assessment / AM2E (Exp) Assessment VERSION 1.1, candidates must show evidence that they have already gained the Experienced Worker Qualification when booking the assessment. If your qualifications were achieved outside the UK, you can only take the AM2E as the final stage in the EWA process. You cannot take the AM2E on its own.

  • What does the course involve?

The Assessment comprises the following sections which must be completed within set time limits.

    • Section A1: Safe Isolation and Risk Assessment
    • Sections A2-A6: Composite Installation
    • Section B: Inspection, Testing and Certification
    • Section C: Safe Isolation of Circuits
    • Section D: Fault Diagnosis and Rectification
    • Section E: Assessment of Applied Knowledge
  • How is the course assessed?

Sections A, B, C and D are practical assessments completed under controlled conditions. Section E is an online multiple-choice exam. All sections are open book and you will have access to all permitted reference material.

  • Additional Notes

In order to prepare candidates for the AM2 we provide a 1 day Refresher Course which candidates undertake prior to their test. Topics include safe isolation, SY, SWA, lighting circuits, testing and fault finding, completing test paperwork (EIC).

  • Other Details

The AM2 is seen as the final piece of the jigsaw for apprentices completing their Level 3 NVQ Diploma.

  • What do I do next?
