Who is it for?
This foundation apprenticeship is designed for individuals working in retail, wholesale or customer‑focused environments who support customer service, stock supply and routine administrative tasks.
The broad purpose of this apprenticeship is to develop the essential skills, knowledge and professional behaviours needed for entry‑level roles in retail and customer service settings. It provides a solid foundation in customer interaction, stock handling, workplace systems and day‑to‑day business operations.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship however learners must be aged 16-21 years old.
Where GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or above have not been achieved, apprentices may be required to work towards Functional Skills Level 2 as part of the apprenticeship (depending on age and employer requirements).
Employers may set additional entry requirements relevant to the role.

What does the course involve?
Hands‑on training & workplace learning
Apprentices are employed within a retail or customer service environment while completing structured off‑the‑job training alongside practical workplace learning. They develop skills and knowledge in:
- Understanding the retail, supply and administration environment
- Delivering effective customer service in face‑to‑face and digital settings
- Handling transactions, enquiries and complaints appropriately
- Supporting stock control, replenishment and supply processes
- Using retail systems and digital tools accurately
- Completing routine administrative tasks and records
- Following health & safety, security and organisational procedures
- Working effectively as part of a team
- Time management, reliability and professional behaviour

This programme builds confidence and workplace readiness, supporting progression into Level 2 or Level 3 apprenticeships in retail, customer service, administration or business-related roles.

How is the course assessed?
Assessment takes place throughout the apprenticeship via a combination of workplace evidence, observations and regular progress reviews with an assessor.
Throughout the apprenticeship there will be apprenticeship assessment working towards the completion of End Point Assessment, which typically includes:
- A practical observation
- A professional discussion
- A knowledge assessment
- A review of workplace evidence
This ensures apprentices demonstrate the required skills, knowledge and behaviours for the standard.

This foundation apprenticeship typically takes 8 months to complete, depending on prior experience and employer requirements.
