Who is it for?

This course is suitable if you have a keen interest in complementary therapy and wish to find employment as a therapist within salons, clinics, hotels, spas and cruise ships or set up your own business. This qualification will provide you with the skills to communicate with clients along with how to plan and deliver complementary treatments. Development will be monitored to determine individual's learning plans, to identify goals and options.

What does the course involve?

You will gain knowledge of anatomy and physiology, consultation techniques along with the benefits, effects and techniques for the following treatments:
Body Massage - using the application of Swedish massage techniques to the body to promote relaxation. 30 case study treatment.
Reflexology - apply techniques to the hands and feet for promoting relaxation and stress relief. 100 case study treatment
Aromatherapy - blending essential oils and an aroma massage technique to promote health and wellbeing. 60 case study treatment.
Salon Management and Business Practice for Complementary Therapies
Health, Safety and Hygiene for Complementary Therapies
Anatomy, Physiology for Complementary Therapies
There are some case studies that are required to be carried out outside of College.

You will be required to do a minimum of 250 hours of home study.

How is the course assessed?

Achievement is through continual assessment in oral, practical and written situations; external end tests; project and portfolio work. Case studies & reflective practice are key element to assessment on this qualification.

Additional costs

It is an expectation of professional practice to wear a uniform whilst in salon sessions. It is advisable to purchase a kit to allow you to practise skills out of College. Order forms are available at interview.

Additional notes

You will take part in promotional activities: - pamper days, off site promotional work, attending trade events. External workshops:- Dermalogica skin products, Thai Massage Techniques, Hot Stones Therapy, Hopi Ear Candling, Bamboo Massage and Lava Shell Massage.
