Entry requirements

A basic understanding of the language is required in using numbers, days and months, greetings, food and drink, places in town and some verbs such as ser, estar, tener, hacer and ir.

Who is it for?

The course is for people who want to acquire basic language skills for leisure or professional development. The emphasis is on elementary vocabulary to understand and take part in basic conversations.

What does the course involve?

During the course you will develop competence in listening, reading, writing and speaking across a range of real life situations. These situations will include: talking about family and friends, getting to know people, ordering a meal, buying food and drink, booking accommodation, finding out about facilities, finding out where places are, understanding basic directions, buying bus/ train timetables, telling the time and understanding opening and closing times, asking for something in a shop, talking about mealtimes and leisure activities.

We suggest you bring a pen and some paper to take notes.

It is also recommended you purchase the BBC Talk Spanish textbook as it is used in lessons : BBC Active Talk Spanish 2 - The Ideal Way to Improve your Spanish.

What do I do next?

Some of our courses may have entry qualifications and you may need to have an informal chat with the tutor to check it is appropriate for you - this will be clear in the Other Details area. You are able to enrol at the College in person or by phone on 01743 342333 between 9.00am-5.00pm Monday - Thursday and 9.00am-4.30pm on Friday.
