What does the course involve?

Learn how to develop your own practice of Zen meditation and integrate it into your life.

This practical and supportive introduction to Zen will include instruction in zazen ('sitting zen') and group meditation periods. We will also be exploring some of the teachings, philosophy, and art forms that underpin this ancient and modern Buddhist practice of awareness and creative enquiry.

There is an emphasis on maintaining an alert but comfortable physical posture in zazen, usually in a cross legged or kneeling position, using a meditation cushion or low bench. More detailed information about the course will be sent to applicants and upon request. The course leader will be happy to clarify queries by email.

Roger Bloomfield has been involved with Zen practice for many years and has received certification to teach in the Soto Zen tradition. He is a practising art therapist and counsellor.

*NB. If you have a physical condition affecting flexibility of legs or back that might cause discomfort over and above getting used to holding a posture (e.g. as with yoga) the course may not be suitable for you.
