Entry requirements

Successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery

Who is it for?

Having successfully developed basic hand tool skills through completing the Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery this programme is designed to give you an understanding of site carpentry as a specialism within these trades. These specialist skills will improve your employability prospects with a site carpentry company and you will be working on the same course subjects as those on an Apprenticeship programme.

What does the course involve?

Learners will learn to develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in site carpentry. The course covers the following skills: principles of building construction, information and communication; carry out first fix flooring and roofing; carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs; carry out second fix operations; carry out carpentry maintenance and set up and operating a circular saw. Skills and knowledge will cover all of the carpentry practices undertaken in industry and will include door hanging, ironmongery, fitting and fixing of mouldings, kitchen fitting and boxing-in services.

Additional qualification

You will have the opportunity to add additional elements and develop your Maths and English skills through either Functional Skills, GCSEs or A Levels.

How is the course assessed?

The qualification is unit based with each unit having a theoretical multiple choice end test. Vocational units have additional practical assessments.

Additional costs

All materials are provided as well as tools, equipment and PPE. We recommend that each student provided their own steel capped footwear for use in the workshop.
