Entry requirements

You must be working at Level 1 or above in Maths and English, demonstrate commitment and motivation and be willing to study theoretical and practical components of the course. Prior to being accepted students will be required to undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy, take the CITB assessment paper to evaluate their ability to read and understand construction drawings and complete an interview with a member of staff.

Who is it for?

This programme is designed to give you a broad knowledge and understanding of the Construction Industry and to provide you with the technical skills training to achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating. Progression from the Level 2 course would be to the Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating or to a Level 2 NVQ and Diploma in Decorative Occupations should the student gain an Apprenticeship.

What does the course involve?

Vocational Units (All units are mandatory): Carry out safe working practices in construction; Information, quantities & communicating with others; Building methods & construction technology; Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms; Preparation of surfaces (1); Apply paint by brush and roller (1); Apply wallpapers (1); Specialist decorative finishes (1).

How is the course assessed?

Your work will continually be assessed throughout the course with each unit having a practical and theoretical assessment task. In addition, you will be required to pass an end of year exam in order to successfully achieve the Diploma.

Additional costs

You must provide your own overalls, safety shoes, tools, classroom equipment and contribute to the cost of any additional enrichment activities.

If you are aged 19 or over tuition fees may be payable on enrolment plus materials fees.
