Entry requirements

Candidates must have completed a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing prior to completing the Level 2 Award in Studio Cycling. This includes courses such as Level 2 Gym or Level 2 Exercise to Music. The following level 2 units must have been achieved prior to the course:
* Unit 1 - Anatomy and physiology for exercise
* Unit 2 - Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
* Unit 3 - Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
* Unit 4 - Principles of exercise, fitness and health

Evidence of these units must be presented prior to starting the course - tutors may be contacted if a candidate is unsure whether they have achieved these units or not. The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary. There is also a strong element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2. Experience in leading / participating in exercise classes such as aerobics classes is advised.

Who is it for?

This qualification provides the knowledge and skills to enable learners to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective studio cycling sessions. This qualification will provide entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 2 and will allow learners to become employed within the leisure and fitness industry as studio cycling instructors.

What does the course involve?

Learners must achieve passes in each of the following units:
* Planning a studio cycling session
* Instructing a studio cycling session

The course is internally assessed through a portfolio of written evidence and a practical assessment.
