Entry requirements

Access Diplomas no longer include Maths & English so gaining these GCSEs is essential for entry to university. Applicants should preferably have grade C or above in English and maths GCSEs or equivalents. English and Maths GCSEs are available to study at Shrewsbury College. Your options will be discussed at interview.

Who is it for?

This course is designed to prepare adults for degree level study. It offers a rigorous A level equivalent in a supportive environment. Access programmes are flexible and attractive to adult students who would like to improve their educational qualifications and are popular with students who may have been out of formal education for some time and who appreciate a more adult-friendly learning atmosphere.

Most students who study this diploma aim for careers in Management, Marketing, Finance, Economics or Law but the range of destinations is not limited to these.

What does the course involve?

The course includes a range of modules from the following subjects:

  • Business Organisations
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Law
  • ICT
  • Skills for Learning.
  • How is the course assessed?

    The assessment techniques used are varied throughout the programme but most is by continuous assessment, as adult students generally prefer this. There are external examinations for English and maths if required.

    An Advanced Learning Loan may be available to meet the costs advertised. You may need to obtain some books to assist your studies.

    The next classes due to start will be September 2017 at London Road. Guidance is offered at advice events, interview and induction to ensure students select modules that meet the requirements for their intended university course.Progression Bonus: Christmas 2017
    Any existing student who progresses onto a higher level course with us in September 2017 and remains on the course until December 2017 will receive a £200 bonus. *assuming there is a progression route from your course.

    Some of our courses may have entry qualifications and you may need to have an informal chat with the tutor to check it is appropriate for you - this will be clear in the Other Details area. You are able to enrol at the College in person or by phone on 01743 342333 between 9.00am-5.00pm Monday - Thursday and 9.00am-4.30pm on Friday.     You will be required to pay your course fees at the time of enrolment, so please ensure that you bring an appropriate payment method with you, (as well as appropriate evidence if you are eligible to have any fees waived).

    If you are aged 19 or over you may have to pay some tuition fees.
