Support for Students
Our impartial advice and guidance service helps you make decisions about your education and training or choice of career. We will also support you with issues with your health, travel well-being, finances and studies.
We offer support to learners within all curriculum areas to ensure that they are given equal opportunities to achieve success in their studies. We have timetabled study skills sessions where our Progression Specialists offer their expertise and strategies and all teaching staff are made aware of support needs to adapt lesson materials and content.
Counselling and cognitive behaviour therapy
We are available to discuss any problems or concerns with students that they cannot share with their family or friends. Often problems can be dealt by tutors, but for some personal problems a counselling service is available, helping students to come to terms with something that has happened to them.
For students with more significant problems, we offer a cognitive behaviour therapy service helping with panic, anxiety, phobias, nightmares, depression, eating disorders etc.
We have a visiting nurse supporting students with any sexual health and relationship issues including contraception (Condom Distribution Scheme), pregnancy tests and STI testing (Sexually Transmitted Infections) including Chlamydia and its treatment.
Our partnership with Stonham Housing helps supports students with housing needs, including housing advice, emergency accommodation and financial advice.
Students can drop-in for a chat at the Student Services Helpdesk or book an appointment via 01743 342322. Staff have a list of other sources of support organisations.
