Roland Music Acadamy
One of the world’s largest musical instrument manufacturers has chosen Shrewsbury College to become its latest specialist academy in the UK and the only one of its kind in Shropshire.
Roland Academy of Music will begin establishing its exclusive county presence at the college’s London Road campus – launched September 2009.
At the same time an entrepreneurial approach to education is being launched at the college. Called Rockschool, it is the UK’s only dedicated rock and pop exams board.
Rockschool, which works closely with Roland, was set up 18 years ago to bring the best in pop and rock into mainstream education and now operates in 18 countries outside the UK, providing exams, publications, advice and support to teachers and educational bodies.
Roland chose Shrewsbury College after assessing the potential of all Further Education colleges in the region. As a world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of electronic musical instruments it is developing close working relationships with selected colleges around the UK.
Music Technology and Performing Arts students will benefit from a state-of-the-art recording studio, production suite, V-Drums suite and synthesizer suite all featuring the very latest Roland equipment.
Roland Academy Shrewsbury will be staffed by industry professionals with years of experience within the music business and performing arts.
Alongside Shrewsbury College’s already successful Music Technology and Performing Arts courses, Roland Music Industry qualifications will also be offered. These will include the Diploma for Music Practitioners, which is a level two course suited to learners with some knowledge of music technology who want to develop a broad range of skills including music sequencing and production, digital recording, pod-cast production and music event organisation.
The Roland Certificate in Entrepreneurship is a level three course suitable for anyone interested in a career in the music business or performing arts. It focuses on developing universal skills to succeed in the music business.
