This wasn’t the nearest college to me, but I wanted to come here because the course covers a wide variety of media including stop motion animation, filming and editing. The practical part of the course has been great and we’ve had the chance to work in groups or individually on projects. I now know I definitely want to work in the media industry.

I had to complete my end of year final major project with a real-life brief and decided upon a music video. I contacted local band The Rainbreakers via social media and was invited to one of their local gigs. I hadn’t known the guys in the band prior to contacting them, but they were extremely friendly and we were mutually excited about making the video. I was approached by their manager at the gig and asked if I wanted to go with them the following day to the Chester Rocks festival where they performed. I jumped at the opportunity and the experience was invaluable. I shot footage of the guys backstage, and from the press box during their set – the press were asked to leave as I filmed, which felt strange, but exciting. I was given creative freedom with this project, which I really enjoyed, but the band had some good ideas, which I have incorporated into the final product.

I previously studied law/politics and IT and Sixth but found I struggled with the essay writing because of my dyslexia. I have always been into youtubing and gaming, so wanted to pursue a career in a practical creative industry. I hope to gain a career in digital blogging or film making. Being at this college has helped me to gain the confidence to work on projects with businesses in my own time and I was recently commissioned by the business chamber to take photographs for their website. My perception of the college has changed a lot since being here. The atmosphere is great and the course, although challenging at the moment, is fun.
