Getting my qualification has helped me fulfil an ambition - I want to see the world and have a bit of adventure but I don’t fancy backpacking, so I applied to join the Navy. There was a lot of competition to be selected and we had to do a lot of tests, but I got through. Eventually I will get to use my catering skills but for the first nine weeks I will be based at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall for basic training, which will be followed by a further 35 weeks training.
