Shrewsbury College has once again triumphed in the regional heats of the annual CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) Skill Build competition.
“This is the country’s largest multi-trade competition covering craft occupations”, explains Curriculum Leader, Stuart Raine. “It is a very prestigious competition in which the College regularly has students qualify for the national finals.”
In this year’s heats, the College had an impressive seven students gain first, second or third place awards.
“To have seven highly ranked students across seven of the categories is an outstanding achievement”, continues Stuart Raine.
Andy Balmer, aged 23, is a Level 2 Site Carpenter. He came first in the senior carpentry category. Haydn Linsey (18) came second in the senior joinery category. They agree: ”It was a great experience. We learnt a lot about working to deadlines while keeping up high standards in our work.”
