Shrewsbury College’s new commercial Hair and Beauty salon name is announced!
Building is under way at Shrewsbury College to create a new commercial salon to sit alongside the new Hair, Beauty and Holistic Therapies training facilities at London Road as part of the £15m redevelopment of the site.
The training salons are moving from the Radbrook Campus to the London Road Campus from September 2014. Alongside these new state-of-the-art training facilities, the College is opening a new industry-standard, commercial salon offering a wide range of salon services and luxury treatments provided by qualified experts.
Salon professional products will also be used and be on sale to the public. Both salons are due to open in September.
The commercial salon will be open all year round, including evenings and weekends, and the College launched a competition to find a name for it. The training facility will also take on the new name and be known as its adjoining ‘Academy’.
After careful consideration, the panel chose the name Evolve.
Four people submitted this name to the competition so the first one to enter was chosen – and that was Julia Beattie, a student at the College studying a part-time Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques.
Julia has won an iPad mini, courtesy of Shropshire – based Chartered Building Surveying and Project Management practice Edward Finch Partnership who have been working with the College on its redevelopment for the past four years. The 3 runners up will all receive a treatment of their choice at the new salon when it opens.
Julia said: “I didn’t expect to win but am so pleased I entered. I chose the name because you enter the salon as you then leave as a new you - having evolved. I am really pleased to have won the iPad mini but am also just delighted to see the name Evolve turned into branding for the new salon.”
Jackie Swan, Curriculum Leader for Hair and Beauty, said: “A training salon, most recently named Elements, has been based at the Radbrook Campus for nearly 30 years and has built up an excellent reputation both as a training facility and a working salon.
“The addition of new commercial salon, run by industry professionals and a qualified salon manager is a real coup for the College and will add to the fantastic facilities here.
“It will also give our students the drive to strive for experience in the salon as only the best students will be given the chance to work alongside the professionals. This will strengthen their industry experience as it’s imperative that students leave us with more than just their qualifications, ready for their next steps, whether that’s onto further training or employment.”
