Shrewsbury College is encouraging teaching professionals to sign up to its OCN Dyslexia Awareness Level 3 course to gain a better understanding of dyslexia and its impact on learning.

The 10-week long course starts Wednesday, March 5 and will run between 6-9pm at the College’s London Road Campus.

‘‘The fact that people can do Level 3 and don’t have to do Level 2 is a great advantage,’’ said Elizabeth Wilkinson, The Dyslexic Dyslexia Consultant who will be delivering the part- time course at Shrewsbury College.

Lessons will involve question and answer opportunities, discussions, group and individual activities, short films and sharing of good practice.

Lesley Tranter, from Shrewsbury, has been on the course and said: “I found the course very informative. The course included how to assess the signs that someone may be dyslexic, strategies for supporting students and what signs may indicate a student is dyslexic.

“I have worked with dyslexic students for 10 years and thought I knew a lot about dyslexia, but I learnt a whole host of other things.”
